ABOUT US
Functional Adaptive Design Lab (FADLAB) is an architecture, planning and interior design practice based in Bengaluru, India. Founded in 2020 by Priyadharsan Rajendran and Surbhi Mittal, the practice builds upon more than 15 years of combined professional experience across residential, commercial, healthcare, hospitality, housing and master planning projects.
Our work is grounded in the belief that every project should emerge from a clear understanding of its context and purpose. Working across multiple disciplines, we develop architecture through an iterative process of research, collaboration and making, creating spaces that are functional, adaptable and rooted in their context.
DESIGN APPROACH
Our approach to architecture is grounded in context, climate and people. These principles are not layered onto a project—they form its foundation. Context gives architecture its identity. Every site carries its own geography, culture and patterns of occupation. Meaningful architecture emerges from understanding these conditions. Climate informs the way we design, with light, wind, orientation, materiality and landscape considered from the outset to create buildings that respond intuitively to their environment. People give architecture its purpose. Through dialogue and collaboration, we seek to understand how spaces are inhabited, creating environments that support the rhythms of everyday life while remaining adaptable over time. Our work is grounded in the belief that architecture belongs to its place, purposeful in its response, precise in its execution and enduring in its relevance.
